Joey Cuevas '16 has ended his recruitment. The middle distance track stud will continue his career at William & Mary. Cuevas also considered Virginia Tech, but thought the Tribe was the better fit.

"I just really felt at home when I went on my visit there," Cuevas said. "It's a smaller school than some colleges. The team was really cool and very nice. It's also just a really good school that has a good reputation."

Cuevas' reputation is high with W&M, especially since his father, Hiram - who coaches track and cross country at StC - was a track and field All-American for the Tribe.

"It kind of scared me at first because he's kind of a legend there," Joey said. "I felt very comfortable with that. I didn't feel any pressure or anything. I'm excited to go there and make my mark and not have to worry about him, but know that he is supporting me no matter what."

Joey is a multiple-time Prep League and state VISAA champion in indoor and outdoor track, and also was an all-Prep and all-state VISAA cross country performer. He won the Prep League in the 1000-meter run and finished second in the 1600 indoors this past season.

Joey also helped the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams to state crowns and school record-breaking performances in his senior season.
