Furman '18 commits to VCU

Left-hand pitcher and outfielder is fourth baseball player headed to next level.
The baseball program is stocked full of college-bound players as Maddison Furman '18 adds his name to the growing list.

The left-hand pitcher and outfielder recently committed to play for Virginia Commonwealth. Furman considered William & Mary and Davidson, but felt like VCU was the best fit.

"I've been talking with them over the summer and followed up with them in the fall season," Furman said. "I pitched well at a camp there and got to go on campus and had a good visit there.

"I had a lot of options, but I really felt that VCU was my best option."

Furman's another option coach Tony Szymendera can use on the mound, and is the fourth current Saints baseball player to commit to play in college.

Seniors Ross Abrash (Richmond) and Jeb Bemiss (Cornell), and fellow sophomore Nick Biddison (North Carolina) had previously made their decision. Now it was Furman's turn.

"I'll hopefully be able to turn some heads this year and really go in with a fresh perspective," Furman said. "I'd like to really add to the team and see if we can make a run for states."
