Two great things came out of this weekend's two-game set for varsity baseball.
The Saints won each game against rivals Collegiate (6-4) and Benedictine (3-2), and the game against the Cadets Saturday at RF&P Park raised over $5,000 for River City Buddy Ball, a program that provides athletic opportunities for children ages 5-12 with physical and intellectual challenges.
Friday, the Saints stopped the Cougars on the road. Davis Evans '14 went deep and had two RBI in the eight-inning victory. Sam Griffin had three of StC's 13 hits, and Matt Dunlevy '14 and Sam Partee '15 had two hits and a double apiece.
Cody Valenzuela '15 went seven innings for the win, and Wolf Sarhan '14 delivered the save.
The next evening the Saints managed only three hits, but forced Benedictine to leave Cadets on base en route to the win.
Valenzuela got it done at the plate in this game with a home run, and Griffin scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Giles Thompson '14 got the win in six innings of work, with Jeb Bemiss '16 picking up the save.
The Saints face St. Anne's-Belfield in a two-game set Wednesday and Thursday, looking to keep their momentum rolling.
