English commits to Virginia

Chose Cavs over Hokies, among others.
Jack English's recruitment is over.

The defensive lineman wasted no time committing to Virginia's football program, waiting one day after receiving his official offer from coach Mike London and the Cavaliers.

English attended Virginia's camp this past Sunday, talked with the coaching staff, got the offer Monday and decided on his future Tuesday.

"I slept on it over night and decided there wasn't any better place for me," English said. "I went ahead and pulled the trigger and committed."

Just a week ago, the 6-5, 250-pounder participated in Virginia Tech's camp.

The Hokies staff was impressed enough to offer English soon after, but for the offensive side of the ball, at either tight end or offensive tackle.

"UVA, they had always wanted me to play defense," said English, who racked up 6.5 sacks and almost 50 tackles, 20 behind the line of scrimmage in his junior season. "That's what I really love best. It's a fit for me academically...it's really where I want to be."

Tech and UVA were English's only offers, but he had strong interest from many other major programs like North Carolina, Boston College, Maryland and Stanford, and had lined up visits to some of their camps.

Now his summer will demand less travel since he has cast his lot with the up-and-coming Wahoos.

"I'm going to work hard all the way up until I get to UVA. I'm going to work hard when I'm there and hopefully have a big impact as soon as I can."
