WOODBERRY FOREST - Only three points separated St. Christopher's and the medal stand as the Saints finished fourth in the 46th VIS state cross country championships at Woodberry Forest Friday, Nov. 12.

SC finished at 161, three points shy of third-place Bishop Ireton. Trinity Episcopal, the Prep League champ, completed the difficult double edging homestanding Woodberry 39 to 43.

The Saints top runner was senior Farrar Pace (17:59.94), who coach Gene Bruner thought would have a good run. He finished 21st, just out of all-state honors (top 20), and only five tenths of a second behind 20th place Worth Smith of Episcopal.

Senior James Busch's time of 18:02.59 was good for 23rd, with senior Nick Richardson (18:22.66) coming in at No. 33, good for third best for SC.

Junior Eddie Whitlock (18:24.31) and senior Foster Haynes (18:42.94) were the Saints' other scores, with sophomore Mitchell Phillips not far behind at 18:43.72 on the 5K course.
