StC Honors the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Across divisions, StC students, faculty and staff recognized Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his achievements.
Last week, students, staff and faculty recognized the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with musical performances, chapel talks, guest speakers and other events and lessons.

In the Upper School, girls from St. Catherine’s School joined StC boys to pay tribute to Dr. King in Ryan Recital Hall for a special chapel service. Ephraim Bullock ‘22, a trainee with the Richmond Ballet, danced and students shared personal stories through the lens of racial and social equity.

On Friday, Head of the Middle School Dr. Warren Hunter lead a chapel service created by Middle School Chaplain Rev. Michael Sweeney that focused on brotherhood and Dr. King’s message of brotherhood. Students watched footage of Dr. King’s speeches and were encouraged to consider what they’d heard and apply it to their lives and actions.

In the Lower School, fifth grade boys heard from Hamilton Glass, the founder of the Mending Walls project. The project’s aim is to bring artists from different backgrounds together and to foster productive, honest dialogues around race. Glass talked about his work and the power of art to affect social change.
