Football wins Prep League

Drops Collegiate 31-7, will host VISAA playoffs throughout.
The varsity football team dismantled Collegiate 31-7 Saturday, Nov. 2 at homecoming, to secure the Prep League title and the No. 1 seed in the state VISAA playoffs.

The Saints (9-1) will host fourth-seed Fork Union Military Academy Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 pm. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at TicketSpicket.com.

StC led 17-0 at half, getting a jumpstart from George Hodgson, as the senior special-teams ace took the opening kickoff back 70 yards to paydirt. Walker Wallace '20 caught a 14-yard TD from Gill Williamson '20, and Jack Siewers '20 knocked in a 27-yard field goal for the halftime margin.

Collegiate answered with a strong 12-play, 80-yard drive for six, but the Saints tacked on back-to-back scores early in the fourth - a 34-yard TD to Nigel Green '20 and a 1-yard Hayden Forrest plunge set up by sophomore Mac Grant's interception return.

Grant is the record holder for interceptions in a season with eight, breaking the mark set by Sam O'Ferrall '13 in 2012 (seven). Grant nabbed two picks in the win. Will Tazewell caught six passes for 45 yards, and is now the school's all-time leader in career receptions with 97, topping 93 catches from Sam Karn (2004-06).

Jeff Moore '20 had a game-leading 12 tackles, and Hank Feiler '20 had his best game with six stops, three for loss, as the seniors were phenomenal on Senior Day.

The Saints toppled Fork Union October 4, 39-19 at FUMA, breaking open a 17-13 halftime lead.
