Second grade boys explore the James River through service learning project

Thanks to our partners at the James River Assocation for making this experience possible!
Second grade boys have been studying the James River in their classrooms over the past several weeks. Along with exploring and learning about the James, the boys recently participated in a service learning project in connection with our partners at the James River Association. Students first listened to a lesson by the James River Association about the watershed of the James and how our actions affect the river as an important natural resource. The boys then traveled to Pony Pasture and observed the river and its wildlife, cleaned up the river by picking up trash, spread kindness and love by dropping "RVA rocks,", and then dug soil samples for future testing in the classroom. The boys also collected money during Tuesday morning chapel offerings that they have donated to the James River Association.
