One of the most sought-after high-school pole vaulters, Harrison Rice '18, committed to Virginia Tech recently.

He'll join StC multiple record-holder Brandon Thomas '16 at the ACC school.

Rice, with a personal-best vault of 15-9 1/4, liked everything about the Hokies.

"I ended up liking Tech's campus more. Their coach is a great guy," Rice said. "It just ended up being the right fit."

South Carolina, Rice and Tennessee were on Rice's final list. But before he competes against those schools, he has unfinished business at StC.

More individual success - clearing 16-0 is a goal - and helping the Saints repeat as state champions is in his crosshairs.

"Hopefully I can improve my technique, speed and strength and get the highest height possible."
