Saints sweep Trojans 9-0.
On a somewhat chilly but otherwise nice Wednesday afternoon, the St. Christopher’s varsity tennis team took on Midlothian High School. After a well-played match, the Saints were able to secure another good win. During singles, freshman Eli Bemiss put his team on the board first as he outplayed his opponent at number six singles, especially by using his great consistency. At number two singles, fellow freshman Alaister Burke utilized his varied game to outmaneuver his counterpart from Midlothian. At number four singles, senior Spencer Seward continued his strong play this spring, and his victory put his team up 3-0. Junior Alston Hackney was locked in a very competitive match at number three singles. His talented opponent hit many winners, but in the end, Alston’s great consistency proved to be the difference. At number one singles, Jackson also played a very good match against an opponent who possessed great shot making ability. In the end, Jackson was able to use his forehand to score most of the important points. Sophomore Joe Beck faced a very consistent opponent at number five, and it was nice to see Joe employ a sound aggressive game plan, which earned him the victory.

During doubles, the Saints played with good focus. At number one, Jackson and Alston moved well and dictated most of the rallies in a great win. At number three, senior Rob Jessee and freshman Joe Parker did very well to mix consistency with power, which resulted in a nice win. At number two doubles, Alaister and Spencer won a dramatic match after some nice rallies at the end. Overall, the players deserve credit for their play, and it has been nice to see the team put together a nice winning streak. The Saints are next in action on Friday as they travel to take on the Rebels of Douglas Freeman. First serve is scheduled for 4.30 PM.
