Tennis now 3-0

Pontus Hiort
Date at Norfolk Academy looms Friday.
On Tuesday afternoon, the St. Christopher’s varsity tennis team played its first away match for the season as they traveled to Charlottesville to take on STAB. After a good match, the team came away with an 8-1 victory. During singles play, freshman Alaister Burke got his team on the board after a convincing performance at his number two singles in which he scored many points with his forehand. At number four singles, senior Spencer Seward continued his undefeated streak this year after notching another good win. It was especially nice to see Spencer play a little more aggressively to score many great points. Sophomore Joe Beck was able to increase his team’s lead after a solid performance at number six. Joe was able to use his forehand to a much greater extent than during the last few matches, which was great to see. At number three singles, junior Alston Hackney mixed powerful serves with delicate slices to secure another nice win. At number one singles, senior Jackson Barkstrom played a very consistent match, and he was able to withstand any challenges that his opponent presented. At number five singles, senior Rob Jessee faced yet another consistent opponent. Rob fought exceptionally hard, and he tried to change his tactics many times, but ultimately, he had to concede defeat.

In doubles, Rob and junior Eli Rhodes teamed up at number three and it was nice to see the two of them score a good win. Jackson and Alston continued to play well at number one and complimented each other well to secure another win. Finally, Alaister and Spencer won their number two match in a convincing fashion. In all, it was another nice win for the Saints, who next will travel to Norfolk to face the Bulldogs from Norfolk Academy. That match will be played on Friday with a starting time at 4 PM.
