Transition score in 43rd minute leads to win over Paul VI.
The varsity soccer team continued its sensational season, dispatching of last year's state VISAA Division I champ Paul VI 2-0 Wednesday at SportsBackers Stadium.
The Saints (22-1-1) avoided letting up a goal in the first half with the wind in their face, a big disadvantage that had keeper Jalen Maurice '17 busy in the first 40 minutes.
Maurice and the defense was up to the task, and came up big in the 43rd minute. A PVI free kick entered the box but left just as quickly off two headers from Townes West '17 and Luke Parry '17.
The ball bounced out to a charging Graham Mauck '17, who advanced it and found John Flood '18 filling center field. Flood then sent it to Alexander Levengood '19, who had plenty of room to work his magic and beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead that ended up being all StC would need.
But Levengood wasn't done. In the 56th minute, he got another feed from Flood and ricocheted the ball off the left post and in for the final margin.
The top-seeded Saints will face No. 10 Potomac School for the state title Saturday back at SportsBackers at 7:30 pm. The Saints last won the state crown in 2014.
