Turnovers, special teams hamper Saints in 10–9 loss
by Shelton Moss '17
Quarterback John Damgard '17 threw for 358 yards and a touchdown pass, and Justin Jasper '18 caught 10 passes for 168 yards and a score, but four turnovers and special teams miscues hurt St. Christopher's in a 10–9 loss to Trinity Episcopal on Friday.
The story of the game was missed opportunities: St. Chris (0–1) was just 2 for 6 on red-zone conversions, committing three crucial turnovers inside the 20-yard line. The Saints only touchdown of the day came in the fourth quarter, as Damgard found Jasper in the endzone for a six-yard score. But the ensuing extra-point was missed, and St. Chris failed to score again.
On defense, the Saints were led by Paul Thompson '17, who recorded 14 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. Despite outgaining the Titans (1–1) by 163 total yards, St. Chris could not cash in when it needed to, falling by the slimmest of margins.
The Saints will look to rebound next Friday as they take on Benedictine on the road. Opening kickoff is set for 4:30 pm.
