The varsity basketball team is headed to its first-ever Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament championship game after downing Benedictine 68-62 Tuesday night at Clover Hill High School.
StC (8-0) will face Deep Run (7-0), a 63-59 winner over John Marshall in the other semifinal.
The Saints led by as much as 14 points on a Nick Sherod two-hand slam in the fourth quarter. The Richmond signee poured in 33 points for the second straight game, after having 40 points in a win over John Paul the Great last Friday. He also hauled in 13 rebounds.
Alexander Petrie '17 was fabulous all night, especially in the first quarter, scoring nine of StC's first 11 points. He finished with 26 points and went 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, going 4 for 4 late in the game to put BCP away.
A defense led by Ned Tazewell '16, Justin Jasper '18 and Eric Thompson '17 held the Cadets to 36% shooting from the field, while the Saints shot 49%.
