The Learning Commons is an integrated approach to teaching technology, library, and information literacy skills within the context of classroom curriculum. Librarians and technology specialists work collaboratively with classroom and enrichment teachers to support student and teacher learning in a variety of ways. Through Learning Commons projects, students develop the qualities outlined in the 2nd Century vision statement: Creative Thinking, Technological Savvy, Intellectual Risk-taking, Global Engagement, and Empathy and Collaboration. There is a consistent focus on Honor and Integrity as teachers promote responsible technology use and encourage students to be good digital citizens. An ongoing goal is to develop more projects that expand the students’ global engagement and connect them to the larger world. Computer labs, netbooks, Chromebooks, and iPads are available to all classes so that technology can be effectively integrated into content lessons.
