Health

  • Health 10

Health 10 meets for three class periods (45 minutes) per week for one semester during the tenth grade year.  Sophomores often face unique developmental, social, and relational challenges that other high school-age students do not confront.  The goal of this course is to motivate students to think critically about these challenges.  Students work to consider, articulate, and understand the values, attitudes and decisions that will best enable them to live a long and productive life.  Students are asked to read, write, discuss, and think through these topics.
  • Health 9

Health 9 meets for three class periods (45 minutes) per week for one semester during the ninth grade year.  This class focuses on the physical components of human health and how, by making good choices and developing healthy behaviors, students increase their chances of living long, productive lives.  Students read and examine various sources and think critically about strategies for optimal health.  Many parts of this class challenge students to read and evaluate objective evidence to determine what are healthy behaviors and what are not.  Health 9 focuses on the Digestive, Endocrine, Muscular, Reproductive, and Nervous Systems and with related topics ranging from healthy nutrition to exercise and wise decision making around sexual behavior and substance use.  Students are asked to read and discuss topics individually, in small groups, and as a class as a whole.
