Lafayette's the place for Petrie '17

All-Metro, All-State point guard headed to the Patriot League.
Four-year varsity starting point guard Alexander Petrie '17 committed to Lafayette Wednesday.

The 6-2 sniper picked the Leopards of the Patriot League after considering seven other offers, consisting of Mount St. Mary's, Wofford, Cal Poly, Northeastern, Drexel, Radford and Towson.

"The combination of great academics, campus, the opportunity to play early in my career, style of play and fit made it something I couldn't pass up," Petrie said.

Petrie averaged 20 points and four assists in his junior season, shooting 40% from 3, helping the Saints to a school record 24 wins and the regular-season Prep League title, the school's first since 2007.

He was named third-team All-Metro, earned his first all-state honor (second team), his second all-Prep League honor and was named all-tournament team four different times last season.

"Alexander made a great decision," Saints coach Hamill Jones '00 said. "Lafayette is a tremendous academic school and their basketball program has a rich history of success under O'Hanlon.

"Alexander will be in a position to compete for playing time immediately, and the Lafayette coaching staff clearly communicated their exciting vision and goals for both Alexander and the Lafayette program."
