St. Christopher’s School is a boys JK-12 college preparatory school in Richmond, Virginia. The School seeks to prepare a talented and diverse group of boys for college and for life in an ever-changing world. Lower School Math/Science Specialist
Application Deadline: June 30, 2013
St. Christopher’s School, an independent school for boys from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 in Richmond, Virginia, is looking for a full-time elementary grade Math and Science Specialist for the 2013-2014 school year. Principally, the Math/Science Specialist will support and cultivate increased opportunities for high-quality math and science instruction. The position includes working with teachers, students, and parents in Grades JK through Grade 5.
Roles and Responsibilities
:
Work with students in small push-in, pull-out, or class groups
Offer teacher training in the areas of math and science programing and instruction, including guidance on appropriate teaching materials and resources
Provide parent education opportunities through periodic newsletters, blogs, etc., and develop “family” math and science workshops and programs
Meet with the Resource/Academic Support Services team on weekly basis to discuss ways to best support students
Work collaboratively with the Lower School Science teacher and homeroom teachers to develop ways to enhance our math and science programs and the effectiveness of instruction
Other Considerations
:
Establish a cohesive teacher development system in math and science, focusing primarily on professional development and teacher preparation and training.
Develop math and science education that focuses on concepts that cut across disciplines rather than focusing on memorization of facts (ie. cause and effect, process of gathering and analyzing data, etc.)
Create more opportunities for the students to engage in the practice of math and science
Help support integration of math and science instruction across curriculum - not just in the lab
Qualifications
:
Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record; masters degree or certification specializing in STEM or Math instruction preferred
Extensive experience working with elementary grade children; a minimum of two years of teaching experience
Experience integrating technology into the curriculum
Personal traits for nurturing the growth of children and working cooperatively with adults; a passion and joy for working with young people, and an enthusiasm for learning

sports
. Well-maintained, up-to-date athletic and training facilities and fields support the school's athletic and fitness programs. All facilities and playing fields are on the St. Christopher's campus. This closeness promotes attendance, school spirit, and a sense of community.
Team sports are divided into fall, winter and spring seasons:
Fall: cross country running, soccer, football and Halsey Watermen
Winter: basketball, indoor soccer, indoor track, wrestling and swimming
Spring: baseball, golf, lacrosse, tennis, track, karate, sailing and Halsey Watermen
