Pontus Hiort
Varsity Tennis victorious on the road.
After a busy weekend at the Woodberry Forest Invitational, the St. Christopher’s varsity tennis team traveled to Fork Union on Wednesday to take on FUMA. After a solid performance, the players were able to secure yet another Prep League victory.

Freshman Jackson Barkstrom stepped into the number six slot, and did so with aplomb as he provided his teammates with an early lead. Junior Julian Mills also played a very steady match at number four singles, which added to the Saints’ lead. At number three singles, senior Baxter Carter was focused from the start, which made for a successful match. At number five singles, senior William Finch mixed his game well, which enabled him to notch a nice win. At number two singles, sophomore Stephen McCray once again used his aggressive forehand to clinch the match for his team. Finally, sophomore Matthew Fernandez won an entertaining contest at number one.

Stephen and Julian matched up well at number two doubles, and William and eight-grader Alston Hackney were equally successful at number three. To cap off a successful day, Matthew and Baxter were victorious in the number one slot. In all, it was a nice match for the Saints.

The team now gets a few days to practice before they take on Midlothian High School on Tuesday, April 22. First serve is scheduled for 4 PM at the St. Christopher’s courts.
