Varsity Soccer Takes Down Collegiate

by Edison Pellumbi '25
After a rough spell where the Saints only came away with one win in four games, including a loss 3-0 at Cape Henry, they needed to bounce back in a big way.  They were handed the perfect opportunity to do that, as they welcomed Collegiate to Massey Field.

Early in the match, neither team really created many chances, other than in the 13th minute, when Ben Smith had to lay out to make an incredible save, but off the ricochet it looked like Collegiate would have had an early goal, but center back Evan Broughton managed to block it and save a goal.

In the 32nd minute, Campbell Stalker opened up the scoring for St. Christopher's, giving them a 1-0 lead.  The Saints kept that lead into halftime.  Early in the second half, Jack Bleecher scored to give them a 2-0 lead.  That was all that we would see until Collegiate scored in the 85th minute to make it 2-1.  The Saints withstood some close calls in 9 minutes of additional time, highlighted by a Collegiate header sent off the bar to win 2-1.  Their next match is on the road on 9/21 as they take on Trinity.
