Saints come up short on the road vs. STAB

by Shelton Moss '17
Alex Petrie '17 poured in a team-high 20 points, and the Saints overcame a sluggish start to lead by as many as four in the second half, but it was not enough as homestanding St. Anne's-Belfield used a nineteen-point fourth quarter to dispatch the visitors 62–54 in Charlottesville on Friday night.

St. Chris (11–6, 2–3 Prep) got off to a slow start as they found themselves in a ten-point hole after one quarter of play. But they chipped away at the lead in the second, and in the third quarter took their first lead of the game with a shot by Petrie off a beautiful assist by Justin Jasper '18. The junior forward finished with 6 points, five boards, three assists and two steals.

It was a back and forth battle into the final frame, but STAB got the Saints in foul trouble and took the advantage. From there, it was too little, too late for the visitors.

On the night, Petrie had 20 points and four assists to go along with four three's. Ameer Bennett '17 also contributed, netting 11 points and six rebounds in limited action due to foul trouble.

STAB (7–6, 4–0 Prep) was paced by Jayden Nixon's 21 points.

The Saints will attempt to right the ship as they travel to Orange, Virginia for a Tuesday matinee with Prep League rival Woodberry Forest. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
