Maintenance crew dedicates plaque to Casey Jones

On Dec. 21 the maintenance crew honored the legacy of Kevin "Casey" Jones at their annual Christmas party. Casey, who died in August of 2013, served St. Christopher's School for 38 years and was loved deeply by the community for his loyalty, hard work and sense of humor.

Middle School Chaplain Durk Steed read the following prayer at the unveiling of the plaque:

Lord God, at this Christmas time, three years after Casey's death to cancer, we pause to dedicate this memorial to Kevin "Casey" Jones.

Casey was an exceptional human being, and his presence on this campus and among the maintenance crew is sorely missed. There are many honors one can achieve in life, but the greatest of these is to win the honor and respect of those with whom you live and work daily, those who see you look across debris-strewn fields late afternoon on a Fall Festival day and crack a joke, who see you on a subzero morning facing an ice-covered campus with a shovel in hand and say, "We've got three hours. Let's get it done," who hear you in the pre-cell phone era receive another urgent request on the walkie-talkie and immediately reply, "I'm on my way."

In the daily challenges, Casey won our respect and admiration. And little did we know all that was preparation for his greatest display of strength and attitude in his fight against cancer.

It is this honor and respect that filled our chapel to standing-room only to let the family know how much Casey meant to us and this same respect and admiration that built this memorial around which we gather.

May Casey's presence on this campus never be forgotten and his example never cease to inspire.

With this prayer we do solemnly dedicate the Kevin Casey Jones Memorial Plaque.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Casey's legacy lives on across the campus of St. Christopher's School long after his death. Thank you, Casey, for your dedication to St. Christopher's School.
