Damgard's 5 TDs help Saints cruise by Norfolk Academy

Quarterback John Damgard '17 threw for a career-high five touchdown passes, totaling 268 yards on the day, and the Saints varsity football team trumped Norfolk Academy 38–17 on Friday afternoon.

St. Chris (2–2) got on the board first with a 28-yard field goal from Willy Bemiss '17, who later caught a TD pass of his own. As the first quarter wound down, Damgard found Will Forrest '18 for an 18-yard score, putting the visitors up 10–0.

The Saints and the Bulldogs (2–2) traded touchdowns in the second quarter. In the third, Damgard connected with senior Hayden Mitchell on a 57-yard long-bomb for a score. It was one of three TD receptions for Mitchell, who found the endzone on the very next drive, this time for 32 yards. St. Chris did not look back, cruising to a 21-point victory.

Defensively, Paul Thompson '17 led the way with six total tackles. The Saints totalled over 400 yards of offense, propelled by Damgard. Jens Ames '18 rushed 11 times for a team-high 71 yards.

The Saints will enjoy a bye next week, and will look to extend their winning streak to three games on Saturday, October 8th as they play host to Fork Union. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
