Haitian Orphanage Director and Drummer Visits StC

Haiti native Bill Nathan talked to students in Upper School chapel about his life experiences.
After his parents died when he was 6, he lived on the streets before being taken in by a family. Their welcome soon changed to abuse where he was forced to quit school. He was beaten, woken by a bucket of water dumped on him and given only table scraps for food. After two years, Catholic nuns rescued him and took him to St. Joseph's Home for Boys in Port au Prince. He now runs the home and is a married with a young son. He teaches drumming and travels the world to make music and tell his story as he did with us. "Someone made a difference in my life," he said. "Now God is using me to make a difference in someone else's life."

Bill's host was Alan Stone, StC class of 1970, who is president of Hearts with Haiti. a Raleigh-based mission that works in partnership with St. Joseph's.
