Defensive Dominance Earns Win Over Cougars

The varsity basketball team emerged victorious in a defensive battle against the Collegiate Cougars 43-36.

Both teams combined for just 11 points in the 1st quarter and ended the 1st half tied up at 18. Both teams also had only two players that scored more than 5 points. Yet the Saints defense won the day by holding the Cougars to just 26.7% from the field while the Saints shot 36.2% from the field.

The Saints defense snagged 6 steals, Jacob Zollar '24 responsible for a third of them, in comparison to the Cougars' 3 steals. However, the Cougars still managed to barely win the turnover battle 10 to 8.

Brandon Jennings '24 and Darius Gray '26 led the Saints combining for 29 out of the Saints 43 points. Jennings scored 18 points, grabbed 11 boards and had 4 blocks, while Gray had yet another double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The Saints are next in action on Tuesday, January 31 in Scott Gym in a rematch against Woodberry Forest at 6:00 pm, looking to avenge their decisive defeat in their first matchup with the Tigers.
