Health Update Regarding Flu-like Illnesses

We are experiencing a rapid uptick in the flu and other respiratory illnesses in our School community. Please help us minimize the spread by monitoring your children’s health and keeping them at home if they are showing any signs of illness or are not feeling well.
We are experiencing a rapid uptick in the flu and other respiratory illnesses in our School community. Please help us minimize the spread by monitoring your children’s health and keeping them at home if they are showing any signs of illness or are not feeling well. In order to minimize spread in the classroom, we will have a lower threshold to send your son home if he appears unwell. On campus, we are working to mitigate the spread of all illnesses by following a strict cleaning protocol. We are ramping up our sanitization efforts across campus, particularly for high-touch surfaces.

Flu Symptoms:
Symptoms of the flu include fever (above 100 degrees), cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue and occasionally diarrhea or vomiting. Because people may be contagious for up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick with the flu or an influenza-like illness, please use discretion before sending your son back to school. Additional information from the CDC can be found here.

When to Return to School:
Students with a fever greater than 100 degrees F within 24 hours of the school day should remain at home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and when symptoms have resolved.

Students on antibiotics for any illness should consult their health provider regarding their recommended return to school since different diseases have different incubation periods.

Students with vomiting or diarrhea must remain at home until all GI symptoms have ceased for at least a 24 hour period.

Reporting Illnesses
If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness, such as RSV, influenza, strep throat or COVID, please notify the school nurses. If you need COVID home test kits, please contact your divisional nurse.
As always, thank you for partnering with us as we work together for the health and safety of our students and our community.
