Saints spoil the Mavericks Homecoming

by Wright Hilbert '24
The Saints took a "must-win" game away at Freeman on Friday, October 28th.

Despite a low-scoring game and a scoreless first half, St. Christopher's took home the win after going on a 20-0 run.

After a slow drive, and some solid runs from freshman Mikey Farley, STC got on the board from a 5-yard TD pass from Kahlil Nash '24 to Captain Henry Omohundro '24.

After a quick defensive stop, with 5 minutes remaining, Nash scrambled out on fourth down. He stumbled but managed to work his way around some Mavericks to get the first down and keep the Saints alive.

Only a few plays later, and with 20 seconds remaining, the Saints had a fourth and goal. Nash scrambled out to the left and made a heroic dive into the end zone to make it 14-13. Jack Slokker '24 knocked in the PAT to tie the game up, and the Mavs kneeled the clock out to take the game into OT.

The STC defense started out on the field in OT, and got three consecutive stops (including two TFL's), ultimately leading to a missed field goal.

For the game's final possession, Nash scored on a QB draw, and jumped into the end zone to seal the game for St. Christopher's.

The win versus the Mavericks (ranked #8 in the RTD poll), proved to be a huge confidence boost for the Saints.

STC will take on Collegiate this upcoming Friday, for Homecoming and the first game under the lights on Knowles Field.

If the Saints secure a win, it almost guarantees VISAA playoff birth.
