Future Campus Enhancements: Field Lights and Community Pavilion

Dear St. Christopher’s Community,

I am pleased to share that earlier this week St. Christopher’s School received unanimous support from the Richmond City Council for a Special Use Permit to install poles for athletic field lighting at Knowles, Jacobs, and Massey Fields. Our endorsement from City Council follows unanimous support from the Richmond City Planning Commission and support of the City administrative staff.

This approval clears the way for St. Christopher’s to move forward with exciting plans to install field lighting that will provide late afternoon and evening practice opportunities and limited evening competition opportunities (up to 15 evening competitions per school year) for our boys and the Saints community.

In addition, with support from our outstanding parents and grandparents of the Class of 2022, we will construct a Community Pavilion in between Knowles Field and Jacobs/Massey Fields. This pavilion will provide much-needed gathering space and shaded seating for outdoor meetings, classes, and summer-programming opportunities. There will also be dedicated space for food and beverage service, bookstore sales, and additional bathroom facilities.

We are hopeful that both of these projects will take place this summer, with construction complete by early-mid fall. Both projects are entirely funded by community philanthropy. If you would like to be part of our fundraising efforts, please contact Director of Development Jane Garnet Brown at brownjg@stcva.org or (804) 282-3185 x 5220.

As we reach the two-year mark of COVID restrictions and campus impact, I hope you will join me in looking forward with hope and optimism to renewed outdoor gatherings, competitions, and celebrations on our campus and to the introduction of “Friday Night Lights” in a variety of sports as a new St. Christopher’s tradition.

Go Saints!
