Soccer season ends in state semis

Saints fall to Cougars at City Stadium.
The varsity soccer team fell to Collegiate 1-0 Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the VISAA state semifinals. The Saints finished the season 10-4-4 and improved by leaps and bounds as the season went on.

Wednesday, the Cougars struck in the first minute on a strong shot in front of the box. From there, StC was stout defensively and keeper Rex Alphen '23 was up to the challenge, making several saves to keep the score as is.

StC really started to push forward in the final 10 minutes of the second half, and had a few strong opportunities, but none could crack the Cougar defense.

The Saints arguably have played the unbeaten Cougars better than anyone else in VISAA this year, losing 2-1 Sept. 21 and giving the Cougars their only tie of the season 0-0 October 26 before Wednesday's trilogy.

StC will miss important senior leadership from captains Taylor McDermott, Nate Broughton and John Collier, but return a host of juniors into next year's fold, which should make for another successful campaign.
