Football drops Benedictine

Saints move to 5-0, ranked first in VISAA.
The varsity football team defeated Benedictine 14-7 at the Abbey Friday, October 1.

Nikkos Kovanes '22 was the star of the day. The captain returned an interception 35 yards for the first score early in the second period. Then, with 2:18 left in the first half, caught an 11-yard TD pass from Joshua Powell '22.

The standout defensive plays didn't end there. Mac Grant '22 hauled in two interceptions, including one at the end of the 3rd period that squelched Benedictine's best offensive drive of the day to that point. Harrison Wood '22 had a stellar day at linebacker with 12 tackles, nine in the first half.

Andre Greene '22 led the offense with three catches for 50 yards, including the game-clincher that allowed the Saints to run out the clock.

StC moved to 5-0 and is in firm control of VISAA's top seed for the playoffs next month. The Saints will host Fork Union Saturday, October 9 at 1 pm, the first of four straight home contests.
