Saints continue streak, drop St. Alban's

By Tee Bowles '22
Saints Varsity Football continued their victory streak with a 37-6 victory over St. Alban's, improving to 3-0 on the season.

Once again, starting quarterback Joshua Powell '22 came to play. Powell threw for a cool 200 yards on 32 attempts. Along with the impressive yardage, Powell added 3 touchdowns along with it. Two of these touchdowns found his favorite target, Andre Greene '22, who received 108 of Powell's 200 throwing yards.

Greene also threw a touchdown pass to Jacob Zollar '24 on a trick play, making that the first throwing TD of his high school career. Powell's third TD pass found his other top target, Mac Grant '22, who also added 30 yards to his stat line.

The St. Alban's defensive front did a great job stopping St. Chris's run game. They limited the powerful two-headed dragon of Nikkos Kovanes '22 and Trent Hendrick '22 to only 9 yards total.

However, Powell once again used his legs to pick up major yardage for the St. Chris run game. He ran 9 times for 48 yards and 1 TD. Even though St. Alban's its their best, the electric St. Chris offense scored 5 TDs. Halfway through the 4th quarter, St. Chris started sending in their backups and gave their starters the rest of the game off. Virtually everybody on the St. Chris team got to play a snap of football. This offense is going to be a challenge for teams in the future, as they have proven almost impossible to stop.

Although the offense performed great, the defense performed better. This St. Chris defense has looked as good as ever so far through these 3 games, limiting all 3 opponents to a combined total of 13 points. Tackle-leader Harrison Wood '22 continued his impressive season with 5 more total tackles, including 1 TFL. Juniors Cabell Pasco and Evan Wilson contributed to this mighty defense, each recording a sack.

St. Chris has 2 more away games before they return back to Knowles field. The next game will be against a league rival Norfolk Academy. The game will be at 6:30 pm Friday, September 24, and all St. Chris students are encouraged to join the watch party hosted by St. Chris Student Council.
