Dear Saints Community,

As an educator and a human being, I am distraught by the senseless deaths of men and women, deaths that have caused such pain, sadness, and fear. Further, I am saddened by the violence on display in our city and throughout our nation these past many days, a violence fueled by those same senseless deaths.

My heart aches for the turbulence of these days, days in which we long to be together as one community in both solidarity and proximity. For African-Americans and other persons of color in our Saints community, I see and acknowledge that these events cause particular pain, pain that I will never fully comprehend. Please know that I stand with you in pursuit of justice for all.

My commitment, therefore, is to do all that I can and all that we can, at St. Christopher’s, to uphold the commitment, found in the Baptismal Covenant of the Episcopal Church, which asks us to “strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.”

While we may be an imperfect community, we strive for the attainment of excellence in all endeavors, including the manner in which we treat and respect every member of our community. National and local events these past many days have only underscored the need for earnest and ongoing work in this realm.

The St. Christopher’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement affirms that our “commitment to diversity and inclusion is based on a genuine respect and appreciation for individual differences that enrich our school and reflect the broader community that we serve.”

May we find strength and beauty in our differences that indeed enrich our school and broader community, and may we find it in each of us to love one another just as we each long to be so loved.
