StC Security Maintains Watchful Vigil on Campus

Campus Security Manager Shaun Gice remains on campus to make sure our community stays safe, secure and healthy.
St. Christopher’s campus is a quiet place these days. Classrooms and hallways that used to hum with activity have gone quiet, the dining hall empty and the athletic fields deserted. However, StC Campus Security Manager Shaun Gice maintains a daily, watchful vigil.

Keeping a watchful eye from his security office in the Luck Leadership Center and patrolling on foot, Gice ensures that safety protocols are observed and that school buildings and property are secure.

Since StC closed its campus in March, the school has implemented measures to encourage social distancing and carefully regulate foot traffic at 711 St. Christopher’s Road. “It’s okay to walk through as long as you’re with your family or group, but we have to make sure no one tries to get a basketball game going,” said Guice.

For the most part, Guice reports that the community and neighborhood have been understanding about the new guidelines. He reports that it can get a little lonely being on campus lately, but there’s enough work to keep him busy. From his security office, he’s able to monitor every inch of campus with video cameras and to quickly address any situations that require him to step in.

In addition, Guice makes regular stops around campus to make sure that buildings and other school property are locked and secure in recent weeks, his focus has shifted from protecting students, faculty and staff to protecting the campus and ensuring that social distancing rules are observed.

While StC’s campus hasn’t been closed for long, the biggest thing Guice misses is the students. “I think one of the greatest aspects of this job has been the students and the relationships I’ve formed with the ones I’ve gotten to know,” Guice said. “Being able to teach a few classes, have students stop by and just hello, that’s what I miss.”
