Middle School Boys Look at Thanksgiving Through a Global Lens

Sixth-grade Global Thinking students learn how different cultures give thanks.
Thanksgiving is almost here, and this afternoon, sixth graders in Mr. Piper’s Global Thinking class examined how people around the world show gratitude.

Working in pairs, the Middle School boys studied how different cultures celebrate gratitude and harvest festivals around the world. Students worked on visual presentations highlighting the traditions of celebrating a bountiful harvest in countries such as Iran, Ghana, China and Israel.

The goal is to give the boys a chance to empathize with people in other cultures. Beckett Thorpe '26 believes there’s a practical value in learning how to look at gratitude through a global lens. “If someone were to visit your family from a different country, you’ll know what to celebrate to make them feel more comfortable.”
