Football State Runner-Up

Team finishes season 10-2, most wins in school history.
The best football season in school history came to a tough end Saturday, as the Saints dropped a nail-biter 14-6 to Benedictine in the VISAA Division I final.

StC finished the season 10-2, the most wins in school history - along with many other record-breaking marks, individually and team.

In their first VISAA final appearance since 2011, the Saints dominated field position in the first half, but only could muster three points on a Jack Siewers '20 22-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. Benedictine responded with a 5-play, 80-yard drive for a 7-3 lead that lasted until another Siewers FG from 34 yards out with 11:56 to go in the game.

But the Cadets held firm and scored on a 46-yard run with 3:44 to go for the final margin.

The StC defense was ridiculous throughout, led by All-Prep picks Jeff Moore '20 (11 tackles, INT) and Trent Hendrick '22 (11 tackles, three for loss, sack).

Gill Williamson '20 threw for 208 yards on 17 of 36 passing. Nigel Green '20 (7 catches, 92 yards) was his top target. StC struggled to get the running game going with only three net yards rushing, but all in all, represented the school well and had a year to remember.

"The 2019 varsity football team was a special group," head coach Lance Clelland said, "not because of their awesome accomplishments or many big wins that were a blast to witness throughout the season; rather the season became a special one because of this team's unselfish dedication to improving each day in practice, their love of competing, and the grit they displayed in finding ways to win as a team.

"This mentally tough group of multi-sport athletes over the course of the 2019 season became a team that competed and won against great competition. As a coach it was an honor to watch them compete, improve, and play beautiful football as a team."
