Faculty Member Shines a Light on Richmond's Rich Baseball History

StC's Scott Mayer featured on WTVR's history of Richmond baseball video story.
Did you know that Babe Ruth almost played for Richmond? Or that Ruth hit a home run out of the park on Mayo Island into a railway car and the ball was later recovered in Baltimore? From the evolution of Parker Field to the Diamond, Richmond holds a special place in the history of baseball, and we were delighted to see StC faculty member and baseball historian Scott Mayer featured on WTVR's July 10 news story.

Before joining StC, Mayer literally wrote the book on Richmond baseball, tracing its amateur roots from 1884 to the rise of the Vees, a Yankees’ farm club team that joined the International league in 1954.

In addition to his role as Associate Director of College Counseling, Mayer can be found on the field as a Saints junior varsity baseball coach.
