StC builds tomorrow's student leaders

The Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service (SILPS) program develops student leadership skills through community service.
An important part of the St. Christopher's School experience is becoming an engaged member of the community. This summer, Richmond-area students came together at StC to develop their leadership skills through the Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service (SILPS) program.

Led by a team of StC faculty, participants developed their leadership skills through classroom learning sessions, outdoor activities and hands-on community service work.

The program allows student leaders to develop their leadership skills through the lens of social justice and public service. Over the course of three weeks, students took part in activities across Richmond, including work projects at Shepherd's Way Relief Center in downtown Richmond, as well as an outdoor kayaking trip on the James River to illustrate the importance of community access to natural resources.

The SILPS program culminated in individual service projects, created by students, to be implemented at their schools in the fall.
