FINAL SCORES

The outdoor track team took the state VISAA Division I crown, outpacing second-place Fork Union 109-105 Saturday at Sports Backers Stadium.

Elby Omohundro '19 for the second week in a row put up a Herculean effort to power the Saints. His tally totaled 8 events - two firsts (high jump, triple jump - a school record 47-2 1/4), two seconds (discus, long jump), one third (shot put), two fourths (pole vault, 110-meter hurdles) and a fifth (4x100). The future UVA decathlete scored 53 points for the Saints after scoring 56.5 in the Prep League meet just a week ago.

He wanted to do a ninth event, the 300 hurdles, but his hamstrings were burning too much.

Though Omohundro was StC's Superman, it's still a team effort. Jayden Smith '21 won the 110 hurdles, a big result that went a long way to gaining victory. Ian Smith '20 was second in a super-competitive 800, besting his own school record, going 1:52.93. 

There were so many other vital finishes that secured this victory:
- Sully Beck '20 and his tremendous kick to get seventh in the 1600, only .01 ahead of 8th.
- The final race, the 4x400 team of Nash Steed '21, Christian Johnson '21, Bridger Thurston '19 and Ian Smith placing third, one slot ahead of chief competitor FUMA.
- Mike Hawkins '21 (11-6 pole vault, 5th) and Hank Feiler '20 (44-2 1/2 shot put, 6th) putting up personal bests.

Next year, watch for our mid-distance crew to take over the team and put up big numbers to try and continue the squad's success.
