Jane Garnet Brown announced as the next Director of Development

Dear St. Christopher’s Community,

I am delighted to announce that the next Director of Development for St. Christopher’s School is Jane Garnet Brown. Jane Garnet will join our community this July, succeeding longtime Director of Development Delores Smith.

Jane Garnet emerged from a deep and talented pool of applicants, with significant experience in both fundraising and friendraising. Jane Garnet comes to us directly from the MCV Foundation, where she has been the Director of Gift Planning for the past three years. Prior to that, Jane Garnet served as the Director of Capital Giving at the Nightingale-Bamford School, an independent, all-girls K-12 school in New York, and before that as the Associate Director of Gift Planning at Columbia University. Jane Garnet began her fundraising career at Episcopal High School in Alexandria as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving.

Jane Garnet earned her undergraduate degree in history at Davidson College, where she was a four-year letter winner on the Varsity Field Hockey team and captain during her senior year. She holds masters degrees from Columbia University in fundraising management and from Campbell University in trust and wealth management.

At every step of Jane Garnet’s career, from Episcopal to Columbia to Nightingale-Bamford to MCV, she has raised the level of development success of each organization, increasing giving and the overall quality of development operations. Those who have worked closely with her describe a passionate development professional who pours her soul into a cause, fostering engagement and support from those who work with and for her. We are confident that Jane Garnet will build upon the extraordinary level of development success established by Delores and her outstanding team, taking St. Christopher’s to new peaks of excellence.

Jane Garnet comes to us, in her words, with “a deep love and belief down to her very core” of the St. Christopher’s mission and values. She is already quite familiar with the St. Christopher’s community. Her husband, Tyler, is a member of the Class of 2001, and Jane Garnet’s and Tyler’s oldest son will be entering Kindergarten this fall; they also have a one-year-old future Saint.

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to members of the Director of Development Search Committee, listed below. This group of passionate Saints supporters provided thoughtful counsel throughout the search process. I would also like to thank the St. Christopher’s Development team, our Parents’ Association leadership, and many other faculty and staff members who participated in the interview process, as well.

I am grateful, too, for the support of Lois Lindauer Search, the development search firm that guided our process and identified and screened over 150 potential candidates for this role.

Jane Garnet and Delores will spend time together this spring and summer on the transition process, and there will be plenty of opportunities this summer and fall to introduce Jane Garnet to the broader Saints community. Please join me in welcoming Jane Garnet to St. Christopher’s, and thank you for your continued support!

Yours,

Mason Lecky
Head of School
