Sixth grade boys make Congo masks following VMFA visit

The boys tried their hands at making their own Congo masks after touring the VMFA exhibit "Congo Masks: Masterpieces from Central Africa."
Sixth grade Global Thinking students have spent the past several weeks learning about the Congo region in Africa including its history, people and culture, colonization, and current political instability. As an end-of-unit activity, the boys recently visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts exhibit "Congo Masks: Masterpieces from Central Africa."

Following the visit to the VMFA, the boys spent the afternoon crafting their own masks. Middle School faculty members Jon Piper, Derek Porter, and Alex Knight all contributed to leading the activities.

The masks are now on display in the Middle School hallway. Stop by the Middle School soon to check out what the boys have created!
