Henderson '19 commits to VCU

Point guard will be a preferred walk-on at his dream school.
Dreams do come true.

For as long as he can remember, Arnold Henderson '19 has been VCU basketball's biggest fan. In the 2019-20 season, his dream will come true, as he's accepted an invitation as a preferred walk-on to the Atlantic 10 power.

"I'm very excited. I'm very honored to be a part of the VCU program and to play for coach [Mike] Rhoades," Henderson said. "I've loved VCU my whole life, and I can't wait to start working hard. It's my dream school and I love VCU."

After backing up 2018 Patriot League freshman of the year Alexander Petrie '17 as a sophomore, Henderson stepped into a starting role and played well for the Saints, averaging eight points with 36% shooting from 3, throwing in a few assists per game as well. As the only senior captain on the 2018-19 team, he will be counted on even more heavily.

"This is a fantastic match," Saints basketball coach Hamill Jones '00 said. "Arnold loves VCU and the VCU program, and he recognizes that it is an honor to wear the VCU jersey.  Arnold will bring his absolute best to VCU and will help make their program better, just like he has at St. Christopher's

"That is the kind of person he is and that is how his parents raised him.  Coach Rhoades is a phenomenal coach, and he wants players who live in the gym and expect that their teammates do the same, and Arnold is that type of player."
