Fifth grade boys and maintenance staff build furniture for CARITAS

Boys break out tools for a fun service-learning project.
Recently fifth grade boys worked with Rusty Wheeler, Flip Filpy, Lamont Smith, Lower School Technology Coordinator Gail Warren and Lower School Chaplain Joe Torrence to build furniture for the CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond to Assure Shelter) Furniture bank. The furniture they built will be donated to families who are transitioning out of homelessness into more permanent housing.

"Our goal for service learning in Lower School is not only collecting items and donating money but also getting our hands dirty," says Mr. Torrence. "These tables and beds will be used by families moving into their first homes, and our boys can say 'we built that, we are a part of their story.'"
