St. Chris Bulldozes Cape Henry

by Miller Farley '18
Not the 90-degree heat, not the two-hour drive, not the previous day's deflating loss to rival Collegiate. Nothing could stop the Saints from achieving their goal on Saturday, May 12th, and that was to beat Cape Henry Collegiate. Not only did STC beat Cape Henry, they completely, utterly, and systematically destroyed them, by a score of 14 to 3.

The Saints' offense was merciless, biding their time and tic-tac-toeing passes all the way around the crease before striking when the Dolphins lapsed defensively. Each possession was taken patiently and intelligently, leading to great shot selection from STC. Their smart passing and shooting wound up giving Cape Henry just one single minute of possession in the third quarter.

It wasn't just the Saints' offense that was firing on all cylinders, however, as the defensive unit put together an exceptional outing as well. The main story for St. Chris was the defense's leader, goalkeeper and captain Michael Chapman '18. Chapman stopped shot after shot, shutting out the Dolphins for the first three quarters of the game and until late in the fourth, commanded his troops efficiently from between the pipes, and went the distance for his first complete game in quite a while. Needless to say, Chapman was inspirational in the Saints decimation of Cape Henry.

Next up for the Saints is a quarterfinal showdown with the number one seed Paul VI. The game will be at 4 pm on Tuesday, May 15th, George Mason University. The Saints aren't just ready to take on the Panthers, they're chomping at the bit to prove they have what it takes to go all the way. Just ask Cape Henry though: they do.
