Royal '19 top American in LJ at Penn

by Sammy Henneke '19
If Frank Royal '19 wasn't already on the national scene, he is now.

The track and field standout ripped off a 24-4 1/4 long jump at the Penn Relays Saturday, April 28, finishing as the top American in the event. He finished third overall, taking home a Penn gold watch and a No. 8 ranking in the United States.

He's currently the top junior long jumper in the nation, on frankly one of the top teams around.

The team performed well with Harrison Rice '18 getting fifth in pole vault at 15-1. The 4x400m relay completed the race in 11th.

All-around star Elby Omohundro '19 is ranked 11th in the U.S. in the decatholon after competing in California at the Arcadia Multis on April 6-7. His ranking would be a bit higher had he scored an average jump for him in the long jump.

The Saints boast Rice, a Virginia Tech commit, who is ranked 18th in the country in the pole vault after his 16-3 feat at the Lee-Davis Invite on April 20.

The Saints next event is at home on Wednesday, May 2nd, against a plethora of schools, including Trinity Episcopal and Collegiate. This meet is also Senior Day, so be sure to come out and support the seniors who have impacted the track program tremendously throughout the past few years.
