St. Christopher's Names New Head of Lower School

Benita Griffin will serve as the next Head of the Lower School, succeeding Dave Menges in July.
St. Christopher’s School has announced that Benita Griffin will serve as the next Head of the Lower School, succeeding Dave Menges in July.

Ms. Griffin emerged from a deep and talented pool of educators with significant experience in both the classroom and at the administrative level. She will bring to St. Christopher’s 16 years as an elementary teacher and 10 years as an administrator, including her current experience as Assistant Head of School and Lower School Director of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School in San Mateo, CA.

She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Hunter College and an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts. She has elementary teaching experience in both public and independent schools, co-educational and single-sex.

“Benita’s infectious positivity and enthusiasm, her dedication to faculty growth and development, and her commitment to relationship-based education will complement our school culture and community,” explains Head of School Mason Lecky.

“I was initially drawn to St. Christopher’s commitment to balancing social-emotional learning and academic excellence,” Benita explained.  “But the broad smile, that I wore throughout my visit, began when I first saw the playground and realized that this was a school that also understood the importance of honoring childhood. I am truly honored to have been invited to lead a lower school with such a rich and distinguished history.”

We look forward to welcoming Benita to our campus in July!
