Varsity Wrestling Has Big Weekend in Dinwiddie and PA

By Jack Franko '18
The varsity wrestling team split up into two groups this past weekend to compete in the Battle at Dinwiddie Tournament and the prestigious Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock High School (PA).

The group at Dinwiddie had four individual champions: Luke Hart '21 at 106, Jake Keeling '21 at 113, Gray Hart '18 at 138, and Carter Davis '18 at 182. Varsity 195-pounder William Tappen '18 took third. JV wrestlers Philip Maruri '19, Morey Levy '21, Harrison Rhodes '19, and Wyatt Abell '21 also placed in the tournament. Even with only three starters, the team took second overall.

Up in Newtown, PA, four Saints placed at the notoriously competitive Escape the Rock tournament. Freshman Erik Roggie impressed by taking 7th in the 106-pound weight class. Captain Jens Ames '18 also took 7th at 220. Junior Connor Alexander improved on his 8th place finish at 120 last year by taking 6th at 132.

Jackson Turley '19 became the first St. Chris wrestler ever to win at Escape the Rock by taking down Southern Columbia's Gaige Garcia 4-3 in the championship match of the 170-pound division.

The Saints will face St. John's College HS (DC) in a dual match at home this Friday.
