Artist Statement
"Most of my works are figures and landscapes.  Living on a small farm in beautiful Goochland, VA, I’m inspired by the land, animals, and people in my life.  My paintings come from either a small drawing in one of my sketchbooks, a memory on a country walk, driving on the road, or from sitting on my front porch.

"When painting either on canvas or reclaimed materials, I like to prepare my basecoat in various ways to have a fresh new start with each grouping of paintings. After preparing the material, I then paint, draw, etch, print, and rub different paint and marks. As I layer the paint and marks, I am using brushes, rags, fingers, paint sticks, sponges, stencils, rollers, and paint knives. I am usually surprised at the various textures and compositions that transform. As the work progresses, I find the perfect balance of color, line, texture, and composition for each unique painting." -- Susan Cary
