Ames '18 chooses Washington & Lee

Football captain will thrive in the Generals' triple-option attack.
Running back Jens Ames '18 will continue his football career at Washington & Lee.

Ames, an all-Prep League runner as a junior, chose the Generals because of their offensive attack.

"Their philosophy is really great for me because they run the triple option," Ames said. "That's appealing to me."

Ames fits into the mold of a familiar name in football at StC, Marshall Hollerith '13. Hollerith finished as the second all-time leading rusher at W&L with 3,450 yards.

A two-sport captain, Ames also excels in wrestling and is the defending state champion, and earned All-American honors as a junior on the mats. Right now his focus is on leading the Saints back to the playoffs.

"These next two [games] are really must-wins," said Ames of bouts with Paul VI Oct. 14 during Fall Festival, and a visit to Bishop Ireton Oct. 21. "We should be able to make a strong run as long as we play up to our potential."
