Saints Cruise Past Titans on the Road

By Jack Franko '18
The varsity football team beat Trinity Episcopal 26-0 on Friday, avenging back-to-back losses to the Titans in the past two seasons.

After a 66-yard punt return by Elby Omohundro '19, the Saints scored on their first offensive play from scrimmage with a 5-yard run by Hartley Jordan '19. Jordan scored again in the 1st quarter, this time from 19 yards out, to put the Saints up 13-0.

The passing game proved difficult for both teams in heavy rain, but Patrick Routsis '19 still managed to throw for two touchdowns, first to University of Richmond commit Justin Jasper '18 and next to Will Hayes '19. Routsis went 5 for 13 for 55 yards and two touchdowns in his first game as a starter.

The St. Chris ground game was strong throughout, totaling 213 yards while using five different running backs. Sophomore Hayden Forrest led the team with 6 carries for 66 yards in his varsity debut. Washington and Lee commit Jens Ames '18 averaged 7.3 yards per carry behind a stout offensive line that managed to keep the Trinity defense out of the backfield for most of the game.

Omohundro totaled 150 all-purpose yards on one kickoff return and three punt returns.

The defense was the highlight for the Saints in a shutout performance. Charlie Boggs '19 led the team with 10.5 tackles, including 3 for a loss. William Tappen '18 had 3 tackles with 2 behind the line of scrimmage. Logan Hingst '18 had the team's only interception, which he returned 26 yards.

Trinity fell to 1-1 (0-1 Prep League) and will travel to Collegiate next Friday. The Saints improved to 1-0 (1-0) and will face St. Stephen's/St. Agnes at home at 3 PM on Saturday.
