Williams '13 headed to professional basketball

Will suit up for Maccabi Ra'anana in Israel.
Former St. Christopher's basketball star Rodney Williams '13 has signed to play professional basketball with Maccabi Ra'anana in Israel.

"I've always had the dream of taking this game professional! Now that this dream has come true," Williams said by text. "I'd be remiss if I didn't recognize where it all started! St. Christopher's was where I truly started to become the player and person I am today. The undeniable support from Coach [Hamill] Jones, [Stephen] Lewis and [Jim] Jump, the athletic staff and academic staff laid the groundwork for me and I only continue to mirror those teachings."

Williams was briefly the school's all-time leading scorer before Richmond's Nick Sherod '16 and Lafayette's Alexander Petrie '17 pushed him to No. 3 all-time with 1,297 points. He put his mark in the record books in college as well, finishing as Drexel's 24th all-time scorer (1,158) and 17th all-time rebounder (687). He was third-team all-Colonial Athletic Association as a senior, averaging 15.6 points and 6.8 boards.

Now he moves on to another level, playing in Israel's second-tier league Liga Leumit, the National, 14-team league.

"I'm very excited about traveling to Israel and continuing to chase my basketball dreams," said Williams, "and I know that with hard work and dedication I can accomplish anything!"
